First World or Third?

Lee Kuan Yew wrote “From Third World to First”. I wanted to write “From First World to Third”, but quit the thought as that would be mean whether we have been first world at all before.

The transport companies are claiming that they are losing big money when passengers pay lesser for their fares. Hey, Government! Why don’t you look at your own people. They are paying alot to the transport companies too. The ez-link system which is kind of nonsense has reaped in extra profits for the transport companies. When people scanned the card at the entrance before the bus doors open, they pay full fare for two rides. Some do not even know about this. And the process to claim back their money was so troublesome that some did not even claim their money back. And the payment of cash. People who do not have small change normally pay for and overpriced ticket. Some even pay a few times more. Why, because the fare was put in an absurd way. Something five cents. How many people carry five cents in their pockets nowadays?

Went to Harbour Front today. That was a horrible day. Have you ever caught in a traffic jam in a carpark? You might have when there were no parking lots. But have you been caught in a traffic jam when you are about to exit the carpark? A traffic jam that lasts up to half an hour? I experienced it right in this so called first world Singapore. That was in Harbour Front. A tourist attraction or rather a visitor center for those taking cruises. And they are thinking of building the VIVO city? Smash that thought.

Cause of the traffic jam? The redemption parking coupon for those who spent above $50. The EPS-Electronic Parking System, the one used with you IU- was probably not working well with the other machine. I think it jammed. So the barrier refuse to open. And the management refuse to raise the barrier. Mind you, parking was only $2. And so many of the people had the redemption coupon. They don’t lose much. And the security at the trying to “help” people get pass the barrier claimed they are losing $16 per vehicle if they were to raise the barrier and let people pass without paying. What the hell. We claim to have the best in Singapore. And the integrity of our car park system comes out to be this kind of crap.

Anyway, I came back home with the steam cleaner to clean the air-con and repair the clog in the drainage system. Finally, after a week without my room- I have to sleep in the guest room, with my brother on that queen size bed- I am back in my room. No more sleeping on the floor because my brother keeps rolling around and I got fed up with it that I made the floor my bed. No more using my laptop on the small table in the guest room. I am back in my own room with my own big bed. Ahhh. So comfortable. Not now, I still have my research to finish. Well, the introduction page at least.
