Travel Journal #2
Posted in The Prophet on May 10th, 2006 by MoleznevBoom! Its day 2. Gotta think a while to know where I was.
Now that I remembered, I remembered there was somewhere I forgot to write down for day 1. Right.. After lunch, we went to a textile center in Shanghai. All that was sold there were materials for clothes and silk. After asking around the peeps standing outside the building, we tried to call the driver up. But as our prepaid card is deflated (used up the lot of money) and you can’t top up cards from different cities, and it’s so difficult to find a telecoms shop in Shanghai- unlike Canton- we had to walk around to look for phone booths which accepts coins- we have no phone card. We found this small shop with IDD facilities and asked to make a local call 0.5 Yuan for 3 mins. I called the number that he used to call my phone and Eriko- my Dads’ friends’ wife- picked up. Kersou. That was her number. I looked up the smses, found the correct number and dialled again. The driver was somewhere 30-40 minutes away. So we went back to the building to wait. Walking outside looking at the roadside stalls. As usual, the ladies bought quite a lot of stuff and I was used as a tool for bargaining. Everything too expensive. I spotted the driver as soon as he arrived and hushed the ladies to go. Finally we arrived at the right place. Argh.. Dunno why have to come here. The curtains here are so expensive. All for retail only! The price how to do wholesale! Most don’t even do export. And the designs don’t suit Singaporeans. Macham hotel lobby, or palace. Some so cheena. After that, we asked the driver to send us to Grape Restaurant.
Start of Day 2. We had our breakfast with food from roadside stalls, or rather roadside shops. We ordered all the takeaways and returned to our hotel room to eat. Some were nice and some buek. Gaylene would love to try the BIG BIG muachee I supposed.
We went to shop for some stuff after breakfast. Damn it. I hate shopping for clothes and shoes. At around 12 noon, the driver arrived at the hotel lobby to send us to Nan Zhan- South Station. From Nan Zhan we will take a bus- trains are fully booked- to Shao Xin and take a cab to the hotel.
The hotel which the supplier booked had just been renovated and the rooms are brand new! At only 280RMB (560RMB for walk-in) its only 10 Yuan more than the one in Shanghai and the rooms are so super high class! The rooms are also facing the river! But no matter how high class they are, as long as its not opened by foreigners, theres bound to be funny english everywhere. And idiots smoking everywhere too!
After settling our belongings, we went down to meet our supplier. It was already around 4 when we reached there. She wasn’t around, so we walked around her shops (her Family owned one of the largest curtain accessories shops there). At around 5, Jilly- thats her name, direct translated- finally came down to the shop. After some discussion and selection we had to go as most shops in Zhe Jiang closes at 5.30pm.
We went back to the hotel to bathe and then went out for dinner. After walking for some distance, we entered a restaurant which looked ok from the outside. I was the first to be lead upstairs. When I entered the restaurant, I was suddenly shocked by the overwhelming welcome. You thought they had good service? There wasn’t anyone else in the restaurant and they have nothing to do to be exact. Whats more gross is that the bullfrog they used to cook, may even have jumped into the toilet- one of the frogs went into the toilet when my mom went in and then jumped into the lavatory.
After dinner, we hailed a cab to the Bu Xing Jie of Zhe Jiang. Kersou. Nothing there. Everything so freaking expensive. Buying in Malaysia is cheaper than buying in China. And the quality is much better. We finished shopping in an hour. And there goes our night life in Zhe Jiang. Theres no where to shop other than that. And as I said, most shops closes at 5.30 other than those on that street.
CHILLIES!
