Driving like never before

Driving on the road was unlike any driving experience I had. Unlike driving in a computer game, driving using a simulator, driving in a carpark lot, and less of all driving a golf club, driving on the road has became quite a bad experience for me. May be that for most people its easy. Why? Because they do not really try to experience driving before they actually went on the road with an instructor.

Driving on the road actually requires you to know more than just driving the vehicle. It is quite easy to manipulate the machine. The problem is concentrating on your surroundings and the gear (the equipment).

So was it easy, I would say, no. Normally, when I am in the passenger’s seat, I would either concentrate on the surroundings or concentrate on the gears. Now, in the driver’s seat, there are so many things to concentrate on. Also, learning too much by yourself instead of from the instructor is a terrible thing to do. I would depress the clutch and brake slowly before i reach the traffic light. Forget about depressing the accelerator pedal slightly before starting off.

Worst of all the surroundings, argh, too many things to take notice. When we were in the heavy vehicle park practising for the first time, the instructor actually thought I took my dad’s car out to drive before that. No way. I’m too timid to do that. What’s more, my dad’s car is auto. All I did was move around in the carpark in the v4n. Shh. Anyway, there wasn’t much to take note of. The problem only arises when I took the vehicle out. So many things to take note of. No wonder Ryan choses the “Auto” course. Have to take note of depressing the accelerator peddal slightly and doing the half-clutch, plus the surroundings, which includes cars coming from two directions.

Lastly, I was wondering if I am such a noob at gauging speeds. I was driving at speeds of almost 70kmph on Bukit Batok Road when got a scolding from the instructor, and realized that I’m going too fast. He just kept saying slow and after some time I just kept going faster seeing all the cars speed off. Haha. Shouldn’t have allowed me to go to the fourth gear at all. I really did not know I was going fast you know. I was used to much faster speeds on that stretch of road.

Advice: Don’t play too much simulator car games before you go for driving lessons!
