What are Supercars for
Posted in The Prophet on November 20th, 2007 by MoleznevI often hear that there is no reason to get a "sports" car in Singapore. I would think they refer to any fast car in general. My mother always say that she would rather want a house than the over a million car. Quite true, but when you get your house, there's the time to get that car. Oh yes that car is freaking over priced in Singapore, and the roads aren't really suitable for it. And you think American roads are suitable? The speed limits are about the same, but in America, highways are made of cheap tarmac. The only place where you can max out the use of the car when you buy it in Singapore is to be in Sepang.
But that's not the point I'm trying to make. The point is, supercars are not just meant to go fast, they are fitted with a character, filled with a certain aura. The Lamborghinis can't even corner properly. What it can do properly, just like the Ferraris and any other supercar do is to let you arrive in style. Just listening to the sound of those engines, the grunt from those exhausts, is enough to make heads turn. Even though I have not driven one before, I certainly know how it feels like when you are driving one. It is the hugely ballooned feeling of a boy who got his first set of wheels after passing his driving test. It is that amazing feeling that makes people want to drive a supercar. It is the passion for something that you want to do, that mad thing you have in mind, just like the Viaduc de Millau, supercars are born to be mad.
