Changes to Singapore Roads
Having driven in US for a period of time, I have seen several areas where Singapore can improve on. Of course, there are many areas in Buffalo that are not as good compared to Singapore, but that doesn't matter here.
Flashing Amber Lights
Drivers who took their Theory Tests seriously should know what flashing amber lights mean: Proceed with caution (Probably because the traffic lights are not functioning properly). In US however, flashing amber lights are used after a certain time (About 10:30PM) to prevent vehicles on the main road from stopping unnecessarily. In Buffalo, people usually stay home before 10:30PM, therefore it is the time when this traffic lights stop operating. Singapore can probably set a later time. I find that this traffic lights not only cuts driving time, it improves many other factors as well. Because drivers do not have to stop as often, they would not waste as much gas, and pollute the air as much, especially for "Auto" cars, as the vehicles can remain at a low RPM throughout when there is no need for acceleration. Drivers would also be less stressed when they do not have to stop so often. Most importantly, because drivers do not waste time stopping at traffic lights, they have a lesser tendency to speed.
Left turn on red
Of course in the US, its a right turn on red. Turn on red signs are not needed in the US because every traffic junction uses the right turn on red rule unless it says "Stop here on RED". This motion reduces the need for filter lanes which I think doesn't work as well.
Free parking
Damn the paid parking. Parking is free everywhere in the town areas of this city except in downtown. Of course parking is expensive there but based on standards of living, it is in fact cheaper than Singapore (US$5 per entry for the day)
